The detention of Daria Egereva — a representative of the Selkup Indigenous people and an international activist working on Indigenous rights and climate policy — has raised serious concern and sparked widespread international support. Indigenous organizations, human rights groups, and participants in international climate processes have issued statements calling for respect for her rights and for a fair consideration of her case.

For many years, Daria Egereva has been actively involved in international efforts to protect the rights of Indigenous peoples and to promote climate justice. She has participated in international climate negotiations and forums within the United Nations system and serves as a Co-Chair of the International Indigenous Peoples’ Forum on Climate Change — a global platform representing Indigenous peoples in international climate policy discussions.

Following her arrest, international Indigenous organizations and human rights groups issued statements of solidarity, emphasizing that Egereva’s work has been peaceful and carried out within the framework of international dialogue on human rights, environmental protection, and sustainable development. In their statements, they note that prosecution for participation in international processes and engagement with UN mechanisms raises serious concerns regarding compliance with international human rights obligations.

A number of international organizations have sent appeals and open letters calling for her release and for the protection of her rights. Solidarity campaigns are taking place in different countries and include statements from Indigenous organizations, human rights institutions, and members of the expert community.

Daria Egereva’s case has also attracted the attention of international research centers and media outlets. Experts note that her arrest raises concerns about the safety of human rights defenders, environmental activists, and Indigenous representatives who participate in international processes.

The international community continues to express solidarity with Daria Egereva and her family and calls for the protection of her rights in accordance with international human rights standards and obligations.
