March 8 is a day that celebrates the strength of women — those who are not afraid to raise their voices to defend people, the land, and the future.

Today we speak about Daria Egereva — a woman whose life has become an example of such strength.

Daria is a representative of the Selkup Indigenous people of Siberia and an international activist who for many years defended the rights of Indigenous peoples and their right to preserve their languages, cultures, and ancestral lands. She represented their voices at international climate negotiations, reminding the world that the fight for the climate is also a fight for people and their homes.

She also inspired Indigenous women of the North, Siberia, and the Far East to develop their own businesses and become entrepreneurs. Thanks to her support and mentorship, many women were able to start their own businesses and begin independent paths.

For many, she has become a symbol of courage, solidarity, and responsibility toward her people and nature.

But today Daria is under arrest. She faces a long prison sentence — up to 20 years. Her story reminds us that defending human rights and nature still requires enormous personal courage.

On International Women’s Day, it is important to speak not only about celebration, but also about women who continue to fight for justice.

Daria Egereva is one of them.

And her voice cannot be silenced.

Let March 8 be a day of solidarity, support, and remembrance of those women who change the world — even when they have to pay a very high price for it.
