On International Women's Day, the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) highlighted the need to close the gap between declarations and real action in the fields of climate justice and gender equality.

Special attention was given to women and girls, who are often disproportionately affected by the impacts of the climate crisis, yet play a crucial role in protecting the environment and defending human rights.

The post also notes that one environmental activist in Russia, who advocated for Indigenous peoples’ rights and climate justice, is currently being held in detention. The case illustrates broader concerns about repression against climate defenders and underscores the need for stronger international protection of environmental activists.

The organization calls for meaningful participation of women in decision-making, the protection of human rights, and the fair distribution of resources in addressing the climate crisis.
