Amnesty International Slovenia is inviting schools to turn Daria Egereva’s story into action through its 2026 Write for Rights campaign, known locally as Pišem za pravice. Its dedicated page combines a portrait of the Selkup Indigenous rights defender with a video and materials for writing appeals and solidarity letters.

Learning about rights through one person’s story

The campaign introduces Daria as a teacher by training who became an advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights and climate justice. It also recalls her attachment to the Siberian taiga, her love of reading and walking, and the warmth remembered by her friends.

Amnesty links this personal account to the risks facing peaceful Indigenous rights defenders. It calls for Daria’s immediate and unconditional release and an end to the repression of Indigenous activists exercising their rights in Russia.

From the classroom to practical solidarity

The page provides Daria’s story and letter-writing instructions in Slovenian and English, alongside a video intended for classroom use. It encourages classes and schools to take part by writing solidarity letters and appeals. The PowerPoint presentation and workshop handbook are currently marked as being in preparation.

For our campaign, this educational approach matters: it gives young people a way to connect the rights they study with the life of someone imprisoned for peaceful work. Attention becomes a letter, an appeal or a conversation that carries the call for freedom to another audience.

Part of an international campaign

The Slovenian initiative adds an educational dimension to Amnesty’s work across countries and languages. Read our collected overview of Amnesty International’s support for Daria, including its COP17 coverage and national appeals.

These Amnesty materials focus on Daria. Our campaign continues to call for the freedom of both Daria Egereva and Natalia Leongardt, whose years of work helped Indigenous representatives participate in international processes.
