Indigenous activist and representative of the small-numbered Selkup people of Siberia, Daria Egereva, has been charged with participation in a terrorist organization as part of a large criminal case involving ten individuals and “other persons.” This is stated in an appellate ruling by the Moscow City Court, as reported by Mediazona.
Egereva was detained and placed in custody in December last year. At the time, decolonial activists reported that she was accused of involvement in the “Aborigen Forum,” an association of experts on the Indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North. The organization was banned twice in Russia in 2024.
According to the appellate ruling, the case against Egereva is being investigated under eight criminal articles, including charges of spreading “fake” information about the military, calls for separatism, participation in an “extremist” organization, incitement of hatred or enmity, rehabilitation of Nazism, creation of and participation in a terrorist community and terrorist organization, as well as desecration of the Russian flag or coat of arms.
One of the known defendants in the case is St. Petersburg publicist Maxim Kuzakhmetov, who has been charged in absentia and placed on a wanted list.
The specific grounds for the criminal case against Daria Egereva remain unclear. According to the Moscow City Court ruling, her defense denies the charges.
