On 16 September, UN News wrote about a new report by the UN Secretary-General on reprisals against people who cooperate with the Organization on human rights. The document covers the period from 1 May 2025 to 30 April 2026 and highlights cases from 32 States. The victims include human rights defenders, journalists, lawyers, trade unionists and victims of rights violations. All of them were targeted for cooperating, or seeking to cooperate, with the UN.

Daria Egereva has been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, The Barents Observer reports. Her candidacy was put forward by James Anaya, the former UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous peoples, and Eivind Ravna, a professor at the Arctic University of Norway. According to Ravna, the nominators hope to draw attention to the situation of Indigenous peoples in Russia and elsewhere, to those fighting climate change, and to the pressure on Russian civil society

Four human rights organizations have submitted a parallel report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on the situation of women from the Indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia. The document was prepared for the 93rd session of the Committee, which will take place in Geneva from 5 to 30 October 2026.

Amnesty International has released a special poster dedicated to Russian human rights defender and representative of the Selkup people Daria Egereva. The material was published on September 1 as part of the organization’s global Write for Rights 2026 campaign.

A new letter from the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) raises serious concerns about the use of anti-extremism legislation against human rights defenders and civil society representatives working on Indigenous Peoples’ rights in Russia. Although the Committee does not mention Daria Egereva or Natalia Leongardt by name, its concerns are directly relevant to the circumstances of their prosecution.

On 7 April 2026, ten UN Special Rapporteurs and representatives of UN Working Groups sent an official communication to the Russian Government, which was made public on 6 June. The experts called for the release of two Indigenous rights defenders, Darya Egereva and Natalia Leongardt. They stressed that the activists are being unlawfully prosecuted for their peaceful human rights work and engagement with the United Nations.

Bonn, Germany - While the UN climate talks preparing COP31 have begun in Bonn this week, Daria Egereva, an ethnic Selkup, Indigenous leader and climate activist, has been awaiting trial in Russian jail since 17th of December, when a large-scale, coordinated wave of repressive actions against Indigenous Peoples and their human rights defenders took place. Daria was detained shortly after coming back from UN climate talks in Belém (Brazil).
