Valentina Sovkina Sends Daria Egereva a Video Letter of Support
Amnesty International Canada has published a video letter to Daria Egereva from Sámi activist Valentina Sovkina. Indigenous Russia featured the message on 8 October 2026.
The letter begins with the sound of wind, played on a Sámi instrument. According to Indigenous Russia, Sovkina used to open meetings organised by Daria this way. She then recalls their time together and the cloudberries they shared — a small, familiar detail in a message to a friend now in detention.
Sovkina connects those memories with their work for Indigenous peoples and reminds Daria that her colleagues and friends have not forgotten her. “You are not alone,” she says. The video offers a chance to hear that support in her own voice.
