During the 19th session of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) in Geneva, Indigenous representatives from Russia held a second solidarity action in front of the Palais des Nations, calling on the international community to secure the release of Daria Egereva, Natalia Leongardt, and other Indigenous activists facing politically motivated persecution.

At the time of the action, Daria Egereva and Natalia Leongardt had already been held in pre-trial detention for over six months.

The international organization Cultural Survival joined the action, expressing solidarity with Indigenous representatives from Russia and supporting the call to protect Indigenous human rights defenders and secure the immediate release of all those who have been deprived of their liberty for their peaceful human rights work.

Action participants addressed the international community with the following demands:

Free Daria Egereva!

Free Natalia Leongardt!

Free all Indigenous human rights defenders imprisoned for their peaceful activities!

This call has become a symbol of solidarity with independent Indigenous leaders from Russia and a reminder of the need for international protection for those who face persecution for defending the rights of their peoples.
