Quakers in Britain have backed an international statement calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Daria Egereva and Natalia Leongardt. Their announcement says that more than 100 organisations, including Amnesty International and Greenpeace, have joined the appeal.

The two Indigenous rights defenders were detained in December 2025 on charges linked to alleged involvement in a terrorist organisation. The Quakers’ statement highlights their peaceful work for Indigenous Peoples and international climate cooperation.

Tanya Jones, the organisation’s climate justice lead, described their imprisonment as a profound injustice. Quakers in Britain are urging governments to use diplomatic influence to secure their release and oppose the criminalisation of peaceful human rights work.

This is a summary of the Quakers’ announcement published on 19 May 2026.
