On September 9, the Human Rights House Foundation published a joint appeal by international human rights organizations calling for the renewal of the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Russia. The document itself is dated September 4.
Among the examples of the deteriorating situation, the authors explicitly mention the detention of Daria Egereva and Natalia Leongardt. They link the “terrorism” charges to the women’s peaceful Indigenous rights work and recall searches targeting at least 17 other activists.
Daria and Natalia’s case thus becomes one of the arguments for continued independent international monitoring of the human rights situation in Russia.
