In a Telegram post published on 2 October 2026, the Environmental Crisis Group’s “Support for Environmental Defenders” channel reported that Daria Egereva and Natalia Leongardt will remain in pre-trial detention until 9 December 2026. The channel also called on supporters to write letters to both women.

According to the report, a Moscow court extended their detention on 10 September. The hearing took place behind closed doors; diplomats, journalists and family members were admitted only for the announcement of the decision. By December, the two Indigenous rights defenders will have spent almost a year in custody following their arrests on 17 December 2025.

The channel says the charges concern their alleged involvement in Aborigen Forum, an expert network defending Indigenous Peoples’ rights. It reports that they face prison sentences of 10 to 20 years and that courts have repeatedly extended their detention and rejected requests for a less restrictive measure.

The post highlights international calls for their release, including concern expressed by ten UN experts and an appeal by more than 100 human rights and environmental organisations. It also notes Daria Egereva’s nomination for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
