On September 23, at the strategic gathering “Vision 2030: Indigenous Peoples and Transition Minerals Strategy Gathering,” held as part of Climate Week NYC, Pavel Sulyandziga, President of the Batani Foundation for the Development and Solidarity of Indigenous Peoples, addressed participants.

The event was organized by the NGO Arctida, the Batani Foundation and the Indigenous Institute. Three new research publications were presented. They cover the shrinking space for Indigenous advocacy, criminal cases against activists, Indigenous rights in Arctic development, and the changing role of Indigenous organization,

Three independent organizations — Arktida, Batani Foundation, and Indigenous Institute — have published an investigation and two reports examining who currently speaks for Russia on Indigenous Peoples’ rights at international forums. Their conclusion is that delegations are increasingly being led by people with backgrounds in the security services, DOXA reports.
